We took KKN and ES on another one of our urban jaunts. Having survived the Hari Raya fair at Geylang Serai, the Deepavali light-up was next. Needless to say, there was lots of see.

The most interesting part of the evening was chancing upon a traditional craftsman making lac bangles on the spot.

The bangles were $3 each; for a dollar more, you could custom make one on the spot. We stood there for half an hour and watched him make one for ES and one for HM.

Involuntary Hipness

Thanks to HM, I am once again at the forefront of fashion. Graniph makes limited edition t-shirts. The designs are tres chic, especially if one likes fonts. What I appreciate most though is the material and cut - fits my body shape and is really comfortable. Notch another one up for super shopper, HM!

The Great Singapore Sale Again

Another weekend, another shopping spree. This time, we covered Marina Square, Ngee Ann City, Isetan Scotts and Vivocity, and it was a pretty fruitful day.

As it turned out, they weren't exactly "Pashmina". When we removed the packaging and checked the labels on the shawls, the shawls were mostly made up of wool and acrylic. It was too good to be true, although the material was still pretty decent for $20 a pop.

We couldn't believe our eyes - Maya Deren, Fritz Lang, Eisenstein and Bunuel, at $5 a piece! I even found a copy of "The Student Prince" for my Mum who is a big fan of Mario Lanza.

One more weekend before we fly off to Bali....

The Great Singapore Sale

I'm just not cut out to shop, at least not for clothes or shoes. My idea of shopping is to wait till I absolutely need something, rush into a shopping centre, and buy the first item that more or less fits the bill. HM's modus operandi is much more methodical: she is what I would call a grazer. People like her systematically cover the same grounds over and over again, picking up bargains on a regular basis. People like me do the hit-and-run, much like how a hunter works. The only time I graze is at a bookstore or a music shop. I have to concede that the grazing method is much more productive if one is not to end up with the exhorbitantly priced, the incongruously inappropriate or the irritatingly ill-fitting in one's wardrobe.

Anyway, the latest grazing session, at Vivocity, resulted in the following:
